The beautiful series by renee ahdieh5/21/2023 ![]() ![]() This book was more of a historical paranormal mystery than anything else. However, if you are interested in The Beautiful as a vampire romance, be warned. Celine and Bastien are both diverse characters (and there are many more besides them). The mesh of different cultures is definitely part of the appeal of The Beautiful for me. ![]() I also loved the sprinklings of French from Parisian Celine and multilingual Bastien. For how little the actual vampirism showed up (more on that in a second), The Beautiful gave off some very creepy, Halloween-y vibes. It was so decadent and dark and beautifully described. The setting is a gorgeous historical, dark, and fantasy-filled New Orleans. I have some mixed feelings about this one, although they are mostly positive. When the killer starts stalking Celine, she must decide whether she will flee again or stay and fight for her new home. Although she finds herself increasingly drawn to Bastien, she feels a rising suspicion about his, and the Court’s, involvement in the murders. ![]() They are like no one Celine has ever met. Celine soon meets Sebastien Saint Germain and his Court of Lions. ![]() She quickly discovers that there is a killer targeting girls her own age and leaving the bodies with their throats torn open. □ Summary InfoĪfter a disastrous night, Celine is forced to leave her home in Paris and flee to New Orleans. When I found out, I seized the opportunity to review it for this series. I’ve wanted to read this one for a while (let’s be honest, I can’t resist that cover), but I had no idea it was a vampire book until recently. ![]()
